I am new to the blogging world, as well as the teaching world. This is my second year teaching fifth grade and I absolutely love it! I feel very fortunate this year to be working in an Emints classroom. In my Emints classroom, I have a laptop, 15 student computers, a printer/scanner, and a SMARTboard/projector. I also get to use the Senteo Response clickers often, and I just recently found out I will be getting a document camera, as well. I have so much technology at my fingertips; it is unbelievable! In order to have all of this great technology, I do have to go through a certification process. This means that I have two years of training, and in just the first year, I have 100 contact hours. It's going to be a lot of work, but worth it in the end!
Other than teaching, I have started working on my master's degree in education through Walden University. (Training plus school means lots of extra work!) I also tutor after school and work at a church on the weekends. I tend to keep myself busy. I also just got engaged over the summer!!! We have our wedding planned for next summer, which means wedding planning during the school year. It is going to be one crazy year!
I have started out the school year trying to get used to working with the students plus the technology. The internet has become a great friend, as I search for great ideas and websites to use in my classroom. I look forward to learning more about teaching, as well as blogging throughout this school year!

Hi Jacqueline, thanks for the comment you left on my blog. It sounds like you're going to be rather busy this year. Best of luck with your many projects. The two years I worked on my masters are a blur for me now, but worth the time and effort.
ReplyDeleteI've got access to a fair amount of technology at my school, also. My students have a website that I set up for them through a free web hosting offer from Lunarpages, open to US teachers. I learned how to install and maintain the blogging software by reading stuff on the web and taking a tech class at a local community college. The kids are starting to use it again, now that school is back in session. That's mostly what we do with the computers in my classroom. I call it our "community writing project" and I suppose it might also qualify as a workshop approach to writing, the way we go about doing it, since it's pretty informal.
Hello Jacqueline,
ReplyDeleteHello Jacqueline,
I see you'll gather no moss this year. Congratulations on your engagement. I am amazed at the technology you have at your fingertips. I have always had to cobble together bits and pieces to bring my Baltimore City students the resources they would be entitled to if they attended more affluent county schools. For years, I used my own laptop and LCD projector powered by extension cords run over the ceiling tiles from one of two outlets in my crumbling classroom. To get Internet access, a colleague and I ran cables from the library (where the only data drops were) to wireless we paid for out of pocket and hid in the ceiling. This sounds like complaining, but I had a grand time amazing my students and colleagues with technology that may have seemed pedestrian elsewhere. I wonder if, in your situation, I could maintain my techie credentials.
All the best.

Jacqueline,
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on your upcoming wedding! How exciting for you!
I am amazed at all the technology you have in your classroom!
Doug- That is an interesting way of doing writing. I never thought of having the students blog during writing time. I will have to work on setting that up. When you use it, do each of the students have their own page or do they all post to your main page? Sorry I am very new to this.
ReplyDeleteDouglas-Thank you! I am very excited about all of the technology I have this year! I am lucky that my district is making technology a goal. It sounds like you are making the most of what you have. The students seem to love it so much!
Lynn-Thank you so much! I am looking forward to this year! It is going to be full of exciting things, both personally and professionally.
Congratulation on the big step. Enjoy the planning, the wedding but most of all, the life you want to live thereafter.
ReplyDeleteYou are blessed to have all that technology in your clasroom. I just realized we had a smartboard sitting in the closet at school. I will have to dust it off and use it.
Keep up the good work.
